NEWLY APPOINTED GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 61 INFANTRY DIVISION ASSUMES OFFICE

Major General W S V Fernando USP ndc IG assumed duties as the 21 General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division on 01 July 2025 at the Headquarters 61 Infantry Division - Boossa amidst formal military traditions.

Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Colonel AQ 61 Infantry Division at the main entrance to the camp premises and accorded a Guard Turnout in line with the military traditions. Subsequently, Colonel GS ushered him to the saluting dais to take the salute of the Guard of Honour presented by the troops of 20 SLLI.

Then the Senior Officer placed his signature in a formal document symbolizing the assumption of duties. Further, the programme was included the planting of a sapling to mark the occasion, Group photograph, a troop address, all rank tea party, Interactive season and lunch with all officers of 61 Infantry Division.
