NEWLY APPOINTED COMMANDER SECURITY FORCES (WEST) ASSUMES DUTIES

Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, assumed office as the 16th Commander of Security Forces Headquarters in (West) on 29 December 2023.The newly appointed Commander Security Forces (West) was awarded with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour by the troops of the 1 Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps soon after his arrival at the premises, in accordance with military traditions.

After the formal military honours, Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, auspiciously took over duties amidst religious observances and placed his signature in an official document to signify the acceptance of his new office. Thereafter, the new West Commander planted a sapling to mark the assumption of duties and participated in a group photograph. Afterwards,the newly appointed West Commander was invited for an all Rank tea.

After the formalities, Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, addressed the troops, emphasizing the significance of discipline and its integral role in achieving success. He shared his vision for the command and outlined his goals, inspiring the troops to work towards common objectives.

Afterwards, a comprehensive briefing was conducted by the General Officer Commandings of the 61 & 14 Infantry Divisions respectively at the conference hall of the Security Forces Headquarters (West).

The General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division, the General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division, the Deputy General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division,Brigade Commanders, Brigadier General staff, Brigadier Admin & Quartering, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Forces Headquarters (West) participated in the day’s ceremony.
