A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour by soldiers at the Security Force Headquarters – West (SFHQ-West) on his arrival at the premises greeted the new Commander, Security Forces – West after he was welcomed at the entrance.
Major General Liyanage inaugurated the new office, amid religious observances, administered by all major religious dignitaries. The new Commander afterwards lit the traditional oil lamp and placed his signature in an official document to signify the acceptance of his new office.
Later on, he participated in an All Rank tea table where he shared a couple of views with All Ranks.
As the final leg of the day’s agenda, the newly-appointed SF-West Commander addressed the troops and set out his plans and future roles.
Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, prior to this new appointment served as Master General Ordnance (MGO) of the Army Headquarters. He also served the Ministry of Defence (MoD) as the Military Liaison Officer. His predecessor at the SFHQ-West, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe is to retire from the Army shortly.
