KEYS TO TRI-SERVICE-BUILT NEW HOUSES FOR ARANAYAKA LANDSLIDE VICTIMS DELIVERED
30 new houses, built jointly by Army, Navy and Air Force personnel for the displaced in the ‘Samasarakanda’ landslide tragedy in Wasanthagama, Aranayaka were vested in the victims on Sunday (14) during a brief ceremony, held at the site named after ‘Senehase Gammanaya’.
Each service built 10 houses and the entire construction was supervised by Sierra Construction. The construction officially began on 5 December last year with the support of the NBRO (National Building Research Organization) under the aegis of the Ministry of Disaster Management.
Troops of the 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), 1 Corps of Engineer Service (CES), 9 CES and the 6 (volunteer) CES troops of the 58 Division Headquarters of the Army were behind the successful completion of the project.
A reputed technical service provider in the fields of geo-technical engineering, landslide risk management, human settlement planning, environmental monitoring, building materials research, and engineering project management also contributed its expertise to the project.
State Minister of Defence, Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene, Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West, Senior Officers of the Navy and Air Force graced the opening ceremony.
Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Secretaries, State Officials and invitees were present.
‘Senehase Siyapatha’ is an initiative of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, supported by the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the Disaster Management Centre.
