At the invitation of the Principal of St. Bernadette’s Model School, Polgahawela, Major General W M P M Wijesooriya RWP RSP ndu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 57 Infantry Division, attended the Prefect Investiture Ceremony as the Chief Guest on 03rd January 2025.
The Principal, staff, parents, students, and alumni warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, who was ceremonially escorted to the flag-hoisting ceremony by the school band. Following the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest and other invitees, the Principal delivered the welcome address. The Chief Guest then awarded badges to the newly appointed prefects, offering his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for their future success.
After the badge-awarding ceremony, the Principal invited the Chief Guest to address the newly appointed prefects. In his speech, the GOC emphasized the importance of leadership and the opportunities it provides. He highlighted how this first step in leadership could pave the way for the students to become national leaders. He also encouraged them to focus on being good human beings who contribute positively to society, rather than becoming burdens to it.
The Chief Guest’s inspiring speech was admired by the entire gathering. The event concluded with the singing of the School Anthem, marking another significant milestone for St. Bernadette’s Model School, Polgahawela. The General Staff Officer I (Operations), 57 Infantry Division and Civil Affairs Officer, 571 Infantry Brigade accompanied the GOC during this program.
