EYE CLINIC AND SPECTACLE DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMME CONDUCTED AT SRI VIJAYARAJA TEMPLE, THABBOWA

An eye clinic and spectacle distribution programme was successfully conducted on 14 February 2026 at the Sri Vijayaraja Temple, Thabbowa, benefiting 260 civilians from the surrounding area.

This humanitarian initiative was launched under the patronage of Mrs. Udari Anupama Gamage, President of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gajaba Regiment. The programme was generously sponsored by Mr. Upul Samarasekera, a well-wisher currently residing in the United Kingdom.

The event was organized under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (West) and the Deputy Commander Security Forces (West), with close supervision by the General Officer Commanding of the 57 Infantry Division and the Commander of the 143 Infantry Brigade. The Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Sri Lanka National Guard, together with his troops, efficiently coordinated the venue arrangements and ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

During the programme, comprehensive eye examinations were carried out, and spectacles were distributed to 260 deserving civilians. A total of 2 Officers and 20 Other Ranks participated in the programme, contributing to its successful implementation.

This initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Sri Lanka Army to community welfare and the strengthening of civil–military cooperation through meaningful humanitarian assistance programmes.
