With the strike of the Railway Station Masters and Train Controllers on 09 and 10 July 2024, the Ministry of Defence, in its unwavering commitment to public safety, has requested the Commander of the Army to deploy Army troops to assist the police in providing security at railway stations. The Commander of the Army has instructed the Security Force Commanders to deploy troops accordingly.
Under the supervision of the Commander Security Forces (West), 14 and 61 infantry division troops have been deployed at railway stations, including Bulugahagoda, Yagoda, Puttalam, Mundalama, Madurankuliya, Chillaw, Madampe, Naththandiya, Lunuwila, Bolawatta, Ganewatta, Mahawa, Alawwa, Polgahawela, Pothuhera, Kurunegala, Weyangoda, Ganemulla, and Rambukkana.
04 X 125 troops participated in this mission, including 6 Sri Lanka Artillery, 8 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 16 Battalion of Gajaba Regiment, 1 Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard, and 9 Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard.
The initiative underscored the consistent support provided to the public by the security forces in the course of their routine operations.
