An extension to the Army Chief's conceptual notion for distribution of dry ration packs for both soldiers and civil personnel got to a start at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya this morning on 12 November 2022, headed by Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu , Commander of the Army.
Organized jointly by the Security Forces Headquarters (West) and the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), the project distributed 250 dry ration packs, consisted of rice, dhal, potatoes, onions, chili powder, flour, etc among selected families living in Homagama area at first after inviting the beneficiaries to the temple premises. Ven Bodagama Chandima Nayake Thero, Vice Chancellor at Nagananda International Buddhist Centre sponsored the stock of those dry rations, appreciative of the services, being rendered by those Army and civil employees working in the Army.
Army personnel of the Security Forces Headquarters (West) in close collaboration with the Commander's Secretariat and the Army Seva Vanitha Unit under the close supervision of Major General D.M.K.D.B. Pussella RWP RSP, Commander Security Forces (West) arranged the conduct of the whole distribution project.
Minutes after the first segment of the distribution was over, the day's Chief Guest, Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu moved to the Panagoda Army Cantonment gymnasium where another group of 200 Army and civil employees serving the Army Cantonment at Panagoda were awarded relief dry ration packs as a measure to help mitigate their burning economic hardships. The Army Seva Vanitha Unit was generous by giving rice packets for distribution as per guidelines given by Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the president of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit.
