COMMANDER SECURITY FORCES (WEST) UNDERTAKES OFFICIAL VISIT TO 57 INFANTRY DIVISION AND 571 INFANTRY BRIGADE

The Commander Security Forces (West) Major General U K D D P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, conducted his inaugural official visit to 57 Infantry Division and 571 Infantry Brigade on 3rd March 2025.

The visit commenced with his arrival at the Headquarters of 57 Infantry Division in Pangolla, Kurunegala, where he was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout. He was warmly received by Major General W M P M Wijesooriya RWP RSP ndu, the General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division, alongside Brigadier A M A Abeyawardana WWV RWP RSP ndc, the Deputy General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division.

Following the formal reception, Major General U K D D P Udugama participated in a group photograph and planted a sapling within the camp premises to commemorate his visit. The General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division subsequently delivered a comprehensive operational briefing on the division’s role and tasks, responsibilities, prevailing security situation within its Area of Responsibility, and ongoing construction projects. Concluding the visit, the Commander Security Forces (West) signed the Visitors’ Book as a formal gesture.

Continuing his itinerary, the Commander Security Forces (West) General U K D D P Udugama proceeded to 571 Infantry Brigade, where he was honoured with a drive-past salute. The Brigade Commander, Brigadier H H S P S de Silva RSP USP, presented a detailed briefing on the brigade’s operational responsibilities and the current security landscape. The visit was formally marked by the signing of the Visitors’ Book at the brigade headquarters.

Subsequently, the Commander visited 9th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG), where he was once again received with a drive-past honour. Addressing the troops, he emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline, refraining from illicit activities, and demonstrating unwavering dedication to duty - factors that are crucial to operational effectiveness. He also commended the troops for their service and commitment.

In the final segment of his visit, Major General U K D D P Udugama visited the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard, where he was accorded another drive-past salute. Engaging with the troops, he reiterated the significance of professionalism, military discipline, and adherence to the highest standards of conduct. His visit concluded with a formal entry in the Visitors’ Book.

The visit was attended by the General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division, the Deputy General Officer Commanding 57 Infantry Division, Brigadier General Staff SFHQ (West), Brigade Commanders, Brigadier Coord (Vol) SFHQ (West), and other senior staff officers.
