The awarding ceremony of Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Chess Championship - 2022 got underway on 9 December at Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regimental Headquarters auditorium at Panagoda, where the finals were held.
Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP, Commander Security Forces (West), graced the event as the Chief Guest during the awarding ceremony at the invitation of the Chairman, Army Chess Committee, Major General M K Jayawardena RSP USP ndu , Colonel Commandant, Corps of Engineers, and the Chief Field Engineer.
The five-day long Inter Regiment Chess Championship (individual and teams) was competed by 130 Chess players consisted with 15 Regiments at Panagoda from 05 to 09 December 2022.
After the finals, Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP was invited to award trophies, medals and certificates to the winners and champions, together with Major General M T K R Silva KSP, Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Major General M K Jayawardena RSP USP ndu.
The Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps Chess players won this year’s Inter Regiment Chess Championship and the 2nd place was won by players of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment. Gajaba Regiment players secured the third place.
