Colonel JMWK Jayalath RWP RSP USP of the Gajaba Regiment assumed command as the 8th Commander of the 143 Infantry Brigade on 1 January 2024, taking charge at the Brigade Headquarters in Puttalam.
Upon his arrival, the newly-appointed Brigade Commander was greeted with a warm welcome by the brigade's staff, and a guard turnout by troops from the 16th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment. After assuming command at the Brigade Commander’s office with pirith chanting, a symbolic sapling was ceremoniously planted to mark the occasion.
Following this, the new Brigade Commander participated in a special almsgiving event organized to commemorate the start of the year. Subsequently, addressing the troops, the senior officer outlined his vision for the future during a series of events that continued the next day.
The sequence of events reached its conclusion with an all-ranks tea, providing an opportunity for the newly appointed Brigade Commander to engage with and address the troops directly.
