Campaign to Clean Beira Lake Surroundings Given Full Support
In response to a request, made to the Commander of the Army, troops of the Security Force Headquarters-West on the directions of Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West joined hands together with state and private sector volunteers on Saturday (21) to launch a thorough cleaning project around the Beira lake in Colombo 2 in order to rid piling garbage.
To coincide with the government’s environment conservation project, ‘Maithree Palanayak-Sthawara Ratak’, efforts are being made to dispose garbage as a resource and use it for crops, cultivations, etc as carbonic manure.
Gangaramaya incumbent, Ven Galaboda Gnanissara Thero in close collaboration with the Commander of the Army has suggested the move to be in parallel with the government’s vision.
The ‘No Kunu’ Volunteer organization, private and government sector organizations in the area and more than 100 Army personnel of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) and troops of the 14 Division assisted the programme.
