A CALL FOR DISCIPLINE AND A CLEANER TOMORROW : COMMANDER SECURITY FORCES (WEST) ADDRESSES OFFICERS OF PANAGODA CANTONMENT

Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, the Commander Security Forces (West), delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking address to the Officers of the Panagoda Cantonment. This address to the officers in the cantonment was a rare occurrence, happening after a long pause, and it served as a pivotal moment of renewed focus and camaraderie.

A major focus of his address was the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative, launched by His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, aiming to promote environmental sustainability, waste reduction, and the upholding of ethical and moral values. He further emphasized the Army’s significant responsibility in ensuring the success of this initiative and commitment among the ranks, under the guidance of the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, and the leadership of the Commander of the Army,

Addressing critical issues within the Army, Major General Lanka Amarapala tackled sensitive topics such as disciplinary breaches, substance abuse, and the actions of a small fraction that have tarnished the Army's reputation. He emphasized the importance of accountability at every level of leadership, urging officers to engage with their subordinates through meaningful interactions to ensure their well-being and professional growth.

With a focus on the holistic growth of the Army, Commander Security Forces (West), underscored the importance of physical fitness, adherence to military traditions, and fostering mutual respect within the organization. He called for collective efforts to maintain the Army’s esteemed legacy and to embody the core values not just as ideals but as lived principles.

Major General Lanka Amarapala reminded the officers that the Army’s strength lies in unity, discipline, and integrity. “Through collective effort, there is no limit to what we can accomplish,” he affirmed, urging everyone to prioritize service to the organization and the nation over personal goals.

The address left the officers with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to upholding the values that define the Sri Lanka Army. The event was held at the Auditorium, Regimental Headquarters, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, and attended by 283 Officers, underscoring the importance of their collective role in shaping a stronger and more sustainable Sri Lanka.
