'ARMY’S GOOD SAMARITANS' RESCUE TRAPPED LIVES IN THALANGAMA

2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the 14 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) promptly responded to an SOS call of the Thalangama Police last evening (17) and rescued 2 civilians, buried under a mound of earth in the general area of Thalangama South.

A team including Officers and Other Ranks swiftly rushed to the location where the accident had taken place and found that civilians who thronged have already dragged one of them out, but the other civil worker remained trapped under wet soil due to recent rainy and muddy water.

However, committed Army troops with unfailing efforts managed to evacuate the other trapped civilian from the earth mound who was in a semi-conscious state by then, and took immediate steps to dispatch both of them to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment with the support of Thalangama Police and civilians.

The victims, Udesh Gemunu Kumara and Herald Jude Sebastian were engaged in some construction work when a heavy portion of earth mound unexpectedly fell on them.

Under the direction of Comd SF (West) Major General Wasantha Abrew with the supervision of General Officer Commanding, 14 Division Major General Ranjan Lamahewage, a team of 14 troops including 4 officers commended the heroic intervention and commitment for safety of others at the expense of their own lives.
