Army’s Contribution to ‘Wanaropa’ National Tree Planting Begins from Panagoda
‘Ranaviru Haritha Arana,’ the exclusively designed tree-planting project for tri-service and Police personnel under the ongoing National Tree Planting Campaign, ‘Wanaropa’, introduced by HE the President, received an impressive stimulus when the Sri Lanka Army this morning (21) launched its contribution by planting tree-saplings inside the Panagoda Army cantonment and in all Divisions, Brigades and formations under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-W).
Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest kicked off the drive by planting the first ‘Naa’ sapling near the main entrance to the Army cantonment at the invitation of the organizers. Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West (SF-West) also joined the occasion planting another sapling in the same premises.
A few minutes later, the Commander went to see the new Officer’s Mess of the SFHQ-West under construction where he was again invited by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe to plant a ‘Naa’ sapling in the location as a symbol of memory of his visit to the site.
The island-wide Army tree-planting campaign from Friday (21) onwards is scheduled to plant an estimated total of 20,640 saplings of teak, mee, pihimbiya, mahogany, kumbuk, jack, ebony, ehela, kaaya, milla, thimbiri, margosa, tamarind, naa, rambutan, domba, duriyan, maara, nedun, coffee, etc in their specific areas during October 21 - 31 with the coordination and participation of Army personnel serving under all Security Force Headquarters across the country.
With the coordination of the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock of the Army, all island-wide Security Force Headquarters would plant following numbers of tree-saplings during this period.
Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (3000), Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (1000), Security Force Headquarters - East (2340), Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (1000), Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (1000), Security Force Headquarters - Central (5300) and Security Force Headquarters - West (7000).
