ARMY TROOPS DEDICATE TO RENOVATE AN OLD BUILDING TO A FULLY FLEDGED LIBRARY

The need of a full-fledged library for the students studying at Sumeda Vidyalaya, Weleveva, Anamaduwa located in Puttalam district, which was lacking for a long time, was renovated and handed over to the school authorities under the patronage of the Commander 143 Infantry Brigade on 28 November 2022.

Upon the request made by the school authorities, the renovation work of this library building was commenced on 18 November 2022, with the direction of the General Officer Commanding of 14 infantry Division, Major General J M R N K Jayamanna RWP under the close supervision of the Commander 143 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier TMF Kitchilan RWP RSP and the Commanding Officer of 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment.

The manpower with expertise was utilized to complete the renovation by Army personnel of 143 Infantry Brigade and 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment within a short time span less than two weeks. Meanwhile, the financial support and 1000 books for this newly renovated library have been provided by the final year students of the Faculty of Management, University of Kelaniya under ‘Dayada- Sarasaviyen Guru Gedarata Social Project’ through their personal donations and sponsors.

Further, handing over ceremony of this library has been colored with singing and dancing performances of the school children. Moreover, the ceremony was attended by the Commanding Officer of 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment, Divisional Education Director – Anamaduwa, final year students of the Faculty of Management, the University of Kelaniya, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks of 143 Infantry Brigade and 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment and school staff.
