ARMY TROOPS ATTENDED A LECTURE ON ‘PREVENTION OF DRUGS’

With an objective of creating awareness on drug abuse and its harmful effects, a lecture on prevention of drugs was conducted at 3 (V) Battalion the Gemunu Watch camp premises in liaison with the Bureau of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation (BCGR) on 06 October 2022.

This timely important lecture has been coordinated by the Commander of 613 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 3 (V) Battalion the Gemunu Watch, as per the direction given by the Commander, Security Forces (West).

The lecture was jointly delivered by Lieutenant Colonel W A K U Chandika, District coordinating Officer of Drug Rehabilitation Center of Matara, Hambantota and Monaragala in collaboration with Mrs. Krishanthi Kokila, the Senior Lecturer in Psychology of Rehabilitation Commissioner General Office – Hambantota and Mrs. Surangi Nawalahewage, Drug Prevention Counsellor of Rehabilitation Commissioner General Office – Hambantota. During the lecture, the participants were educated on various drugs and their effects how they ruined life badly, rehabilitation of drug addicts, the respective rehabilitation centres which are facilitated to prevention of drugs, family counselling for drug addiction and legal aspects of drug addiction, etc.

A total of 75 Army personnel, including Officers of 3 (V) Battalion the Gemunu Watch joined at the lecture session.
