Army Supplies Gas Cookers to Kosgama Families

Enhancing the degree of immediate assistance that could be provided to the affected civilians in Kosgama inferno on the part of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on Thursday (16) made a stock of 50 gas cookers available for distribution among the victims during a simple ceremony at Sri Wardhanaramaya, Boralugoda, Kosgama. In response to a proposal of Ven. Hewelwala Gnanananda Thero, Incumbent, Sri Wardhanaramaya, Boralugoda, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, reacted positively and instructed his officers to provide those civilians with gas cookers as early as possible at Army\'s cost. Representing the Commander of the Army, Colonel K.P.S.A Fernando, Colonel General Staff at the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West), together with Mr Bandara Mapa, Divisional Secretary for Seethawaka and Lieutenant Colonel Hemantha Perera, Civil Affairs Coordinating Officer of the SFHQ-West after assembling the worst-affected to the temple, donated those cookers in the presence of the temple incumbent and several other monks. The Army since the unfortunate incident occurred in Kosgama, has been at the forefront of providing all possible humanitarian assistance to the victims by way of conducting repairs, reconstructions, cleaning, water purifying, medical assistance, evaluations, meal preparations, establishment of temporary huts and mobile toilets, etc. Under special arrangements, the Commander taking new initiatives, has been offering professional and technical assistance to the families of victims by stitching school uniforms of affected children and providing all students with necessary exercise books and other school accessories. It was on Wednesday (15), the Army began distributing those sewn school uniforms for recent flood and Kosgama victims.
