The newly constructed dancing room building of Mailankulama Collage, Puttalam was declared open under the patronage of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General D M K D B Pussella RWP RSP together with the president of District Interact Council – Colombo, Ms. Shalani Fernando on 02 September 2022.
The project was carried out as a part of the Army's Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, under the continuous guidance and directives of the Commander Security Forces (West).
The construction work of this dancing room building was begun under the close supervision of the Commander 143 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier TMF Kitchilan RWP RSP and the Commanding Officer of 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment, with the financial support of the District Interact Council – Colombo. Further, Army manpower with expertise was utilized to complete the construction work within a short time span of less than two months.
All the necessary arrangements for this opening ceremony were properly arranged at the location by Army personnel of the 143 Infantry Brigade and 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment with the collaboration of school authorities. The Chief Guest and other invitees were warmly welcomed by the principal, teachers and children of the school at the beginning of the ceremony. Afterwards, in accordance with the ancient traditions, the day's Chief Guest and the sponsors unveiled the new classroom at the auspicious time and handed over it to the school authorities amidst religious observances.
Later on, the invitees of the day’s programme witnessed a dancing programme which was organized by the school teachers and students. Thereafter, addressing the occasion, West Commander appreciated the talents of the students and he made them aware of the importance of learning and the benefits of learning for themselves and towards the country.
Meanwhile, West Commander interacted with the school teachers, children and parents. The Principal and parents were full of praise for the noble effort undertaken by the Sri Lanka Army besides the heavy Operational commitment. Finally, marking the end of this programme, the invited guests, and all the participants also had refreshments at the location.
The occasion was also attended by the Venerable Maha Sangha, Commander 141 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier S P G Gamage RWP RSP USP, Colonel General Staff of Security Forces (West), several Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.
