ARMY PERSONNEL ASSIST IN DENGUE PREVENTION IN THE SECURITY FORCES (WEST) AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

With the intention of speeding up the National Dengue Prevention Campaign being implemented island-wide, troops serving under the 14 and 61 Infantry Divisions under the Security Forces (West) contributed their manpower to another Dengue prevention campaign from 14 to 16 July 2023, covering 26 MOH office areas in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Galle, Matara and Rathnapura, where a rise in Dengue patients has been reported.

This campaign was organized by the respective MOH offices in collaboration with the Tri Forces under the direction of the National Dengue Control Unit, Ministry of Health. Accordingly, with the approval of Army Headquarters, about 250 Army personnel participated in this Community project, along with Police personnel, several medical officers and respective Public Health Inspectors (PHI).

Through this project, participants conducted inspections of residential areas, schools, and public spaces, identifying and eliminating potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes and raising awareness about dengue prevention and control measures among the local communities.

Further, Army’s involvement in this community project was closely monitored by the General Officer Commandings of 14 and 61 Infantry Divisions, respective Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers, with the blessing of the Commander Security Forces (West).

At the same time, the Army's assistance in this community project was much appreciated by state officials as well as the local community.
