Under the guidance of Major General KHMS Wikramaratne RSP, General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division, a Special Basic Outboard Motor Boat and Oar Boat Training Course was arranged to train 4 X 64 Officers and Other Ranks from 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 2 (V) Gemunu Watch and 3 (V) Gemunu Watch. The training took place at the Army Engineers' Training School in Embilipitiya in two phases, with approval from the Directorate of Training and under the supervision of the Commander 613 Infantry Brigade.
The training, a testament to the dedication and hard work of all involved, was successfully conducted from 5 August 2024 to 13 August 2024. The first stage, held at the School of Sri Lanka Army Engineers Corps in Embilipitiya, marked a significant milestone in the troops' journey towards mastering motorboat operation.
The course, meticulously supervised by the Commander 613 Infantry Brigade, aimed to equip the troops with essential skills for effective motorboat operation, particularly in challenging conditions such as floods. The Basic Outboard Motor Boat and Oar Boat Training Course – Stage 1 covered theoretical and practical aspects, including the identification of motorboat parts, fault rectification, and operation under adverse conditions. The primary focus was to prepare the troops to handle flood situations and assist in search and rescue operations during natural disasters.
Participants who completed the course, having demonstrated their proficiency in both practical and written tests, were awarded a valid certificate. This comprehensive evaluation ensures that the troops are fully equipped to handle motorboat operations effectively.
