On the auspicious occasion of Poson Festival 2023, the 611 Infantry Brigade Headquarters and 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops organized a one-day psychological medical care awareness project for Officers and Other Ranks as well as their immediate family members. The project was held on 4 June 2023, at the 611 Infantry Brigade premises and was conducted by Dr. Jinanjala Shanika Wijegunasekara with the invitation of the Commander 611 Infantry Brigade.
This valuable project was initiated by the Brigade Commander 611 Infantry Brigade, and it was aimed to provide necessary guidelines for Mental disorders which occurred due to several illnesses. Meanwhile, this project covered a wide range of Mental disorders, including stress and anxiety, depression, etc. At the same time, the project also provided guidance for the immediate family members of the Officers and Other Ranks regarding various Mental disorders.
Meantime, this awareness project was a resounding success, and the Officers, Other Ranks and their family members who participated in the project expressed their gratitude for the initiative. The project helped them to better understand their Mental disorders and provided them with the guidelines to manage their conditions effectively.
Further, in addition to the medical clinic, Dr. Wijegunasekara also conducted an informative lecture session on Buddhist teaching on 05 June 2023, at the 611 Brigade premises. The lecture was attended by a group of around 150 Army personnel, including senior Officers and Officers.
This lecture was an excellent opportunity for the attendees to learn more about Buddhist teaching. Dr. Wijegunasekara provided an in-depth analysis of the basic tenets of Buddhism and their relevance in modern-day life.
Moreover, said medical care project and lecture sessions were launched with the blessing of the Commander, Security Forces (West) and General Officer Commandingm, 61 Infantry Division.
