583 Brigade Troops Facilitate Provision of Spectacles to Civilians in Kuruwita
As part of their Civil-Military Coordination, 583 Brigade troops of the 58 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on Wednesday (10) launched a mobile eye clinic for the benefit of civilians in Kuruwita Divisional Secretariat area at Kahengama Sri Bodhi Viharaya.
The project which also distributed spectacles among civilians, affected by visual impairments to the value of Rs 211,500/= during the same clinic was organized on the directions of Brigadier Randula Hathnagoda, 583 Brigade Commander.
Troops of the 1 Gemunu Watch of the 583 Brigade actively supported the project by making arrangements and providing refreshments to the civilians attending the clinic.
A few more than 235 visually handicapped civilians reached the mobile clinic for consultations of the specialist eye surgeon, Dr Nimal Weerakoon and his medical team for assistance. Sponsorship for spectacles was provided by Dr Weerakoon himself considering the importance of the project.
Ven Dodagala Vijayananda Thero, Incumbent, Kahengama Sri Bodhi Viharaya who facilitated the conduct of the clinic made a brief Anusasana before the day’s work started.
Brigadier Randula Hathnagoda, 583 Brigade Commander, Officer In-Charge (OIC) at Kuruwita Police Station, several Grama Seva Officials in the area witnessed the community project, organized by the 583 Brigade of the SFHQ-West.
