Following intense rainfall and strong winds occurred on 21 April 2026, the Wariyapola town area suffered significant infrastructure damage. The sudden storm impacted approximately twenty residences and a school building within the Wariyapola Divisional Secretariat.
In response to urgent notifications from the Kurunegala Disaster Management Centre and Wariyapola Divisional Secretariat, soldiers of the 16 Gajaba Regiment were immediately deployed under the direction and supervision of senior military leadership in the area. They engaged in strenuous clearing operations, focusing on removing uprooted trees with heavy branches that had collapsed onto the school building with support of Timber Cooperation Kuliyapitiya. This swift military intervention was a real need in mitigating post-disaster effects ensuring the smooth function of the school.
