144 BRIGADE TROOPS COORDINATE A COMMUNITY PROJECT AT AMBATALE

A programme to distribute a large stock of school bags, accessories, equipment, exercise books and other stationery items among 197 school students at Tikiri Kumara Vidyalaya, situated in Ambatale, Mulleriyawa, got underway on 03 May 2023 at school premises, consequent upon proper coordination, effected by the Army troops under the 144 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces (West).

Mr. Samantha Fernando, the Director of Kangara Holdings Pvt. Limited, Hokandara, sponsored the school bags, while Dr. Thurul Atigala who worked at Asiri Hospital- Colombo sponsored the rest of the accessories, equipment, exercise books and other stationery items at the request of Commander 144 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier K. M. V. Kodituwakku.

Prior to the project, all the necessary arrangements were well coordinated at the distribution venue by the troops of 144 Infantry Brigade and its under-command Battalions under the close supervision of the Commander 144 Infantry Brigade and his Commanding Officers, with the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division as per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West).

Major General D. M. K. D. B. Pussella RWP RSP, the Commander Security Forces (West), graced the distribution ceremony as the chief guest, together with the Major General J M R N K Jayamanna RWP, General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division, Director of Kangara Holdings Pvt. Limited, Hokandara and his spouse, at the invitation of the Brigade Commander, 144 Infantry Brigade. Meanwhile, during the distribution ceremony, school teachers were also gifted with sarees and participants of the programme witnessed the colorful entertainment events that were presented by the school children.

Coming to the final segment of the day’s programme, the students and teachers enjoyed a refreshment treat that was offered by the Army personnel. Further, the principal, teachers and parents appreciated the efforts taken by the Army to lend their assistance to uplift the educational facilities of needy schoolchildren in the area.

The day’s programme was attended by, a few senior officers from Security Forces Headquarters West, Commanding Officers under 144 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, sponsors, Principal, teachers and parents of the students.
