On the direction of the Commander of the Army with the aim of promoting harmony and coordination between the Army and civilians, under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces (West) and the Commander 14 Infantry Division with the supervision of the Commander 141 Infantry Brigade, organized a special programme at Yakkala Peter Weerasekera Children’s Home and Nutrition Center in honour of Children’s day on 01 October 2023.
The troops of the 6th Sri Lanka Artillery organized this special program for 33 children at the Yakkala Peter Weerasekera Children's Home and Nutrition Center. The program included various activities and treats for the children, such as a tea party, a special lunch, a musical entertainment program, and a prize-giving ceremony.
The event was graced by the presence of the Civil Affairs Officer 141 Infantry Brigade Lt Col SD Ratnasiri and the Commanding Officer 6th Sri Lanka Artillery Lt Col GRRKS Jayaratne RSP psc IG, who attended as chief guests. Other officers, the warden of the Children's Home, and the Grama Niladhari of the Kinigama area also participated in this heartwarming event, making it a meaningful and joyous occasion for the children. Such initiatives go a long way in fostering positive relationships and goodwill between the military and the local community, especially on occasions as important as World Children's Day.
