Under the supervision of the 55 Infantry Division, the Infantry Brigade headquarters and undercommand battalions operating within its responsible area continue to implement a series of community assistance programs aimed at purifying drinking water sources and providing meals to those affected community by natural disasters.
In response to the adverse weather conditions which country experienced, several drinking water sources in the Kilinochchi area had also become contaminated, affecting the local civilian population. To address this issue, troops of the division conducted well-cleaning operations in multiple areas, while simultaneously organizing a refreshment distribution program to provide milk tea and short eats to families temporarily sheltered at relief centers.
These humanitarian activities were successfully carried out on 03 December 2025 under the directives of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, with the active participation of the respective brigade headquarters and their subordinate units. The operations were conducted at the following locations:
In Rathnapuram, Kilinochchi, a well used for drinking water at the residence of Mr. M. Ravindran was cleaned by a team of 04 offrs and 07 soldiers from the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment.
In Pannankandy, Kilinochchi, a public well utilized by civilians for drinking water was cleaned by a team of 03 offrs and 15 soldiers from the 11(Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment.
In Dharmapuram, Kilinochchi, a well serving the local civilian population was cleaned by a team of 01 offrs and 08 soldiers from the 14 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion.
In Umayalapuram, Kilinochchi, a well providing drinking water to residents was cleaned by a team of 02 offrs and 08 soldiers from the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
Additionally, a team of 02 offrs and 04 soldiers from the 2 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion distributed fish buns and hot milk tea among 74 individuals from families staying at relief centers in the Jayapuram and Valayapadu areas.
Through these coordinated efforts, the 55 Infantry Division continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to supporting the civilian population during times of hardship, reaffirming the Sri Lanka Army’s dedication to national service and community welfare.
