The 51 Infantry Division of the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna has launched a rapid and extensive humanitarian operation in response to Cyclone Ditwah, providing lifesaving assistance to affected communities across the Jaffna Peninsula.
Under the leadership of General Officers Commanding 51 Infantry Division and guided on ground by Brigade Commanders 511,512 and 513 Infantry Brigades more than 350 troops have been continuously engaged since 29 November 2025.
Soldiers swiftly carried out search and rescue missions, including saving a disabled woman trapped in her flooded home in Tirunelveli North-East. Teams also cleared fallen trees blocking roads, damaging houses and disrupting power lines in multiple areas, while 9(V) SLLI troops secured the Ayyanar Kovil in Kadduwan after a massive Banyan tree destroyed part of its roof.
As floodwaters displaced families, the Division established 28 Safety Centers across the peninsula, sheltering nearly 3,000 people from 890 families. Those affected are receiving meals, drinking water, medical aid, clothing and safe lodging.
Living among the communities they serve, the troops of the 51 Infantry Division continue to work tirelessly rescuing the vulnerable, restoring access routes and supporting displaced families until every resident can return home safely.
