Conduct of Medical Clinic and Distribution of Nutritional Packs for Pregnant Mothers

A medical clinic and distribution of nutrition and essential packs for 40 pregnant mothers from the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat area was successfully conducted on 19 September 2025 at the Family Clinic Health Centre, Pommaiwel, Nawanthurei, Jcaffna. The programme was organized by the 14th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, under the supervision of the 512 Infantry Brigade and the guidance of the 51 Infantry Division and Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), in collaboration with the Teaching Hospital, Jaffna and the Medical Officer of Health, Jaffna.

The Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General K A N Rasika Kumara ndc psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and was warmly welcomed by the General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division, Major General M P N A Muthumala USP psc, the Commander 512 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier L A R Gunaratne RSP USP IG and Commanding Officer, 14th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, Major K G T Jayawardane RWP RSP psc at the venue on his arrival.

The programme commenced with a medical clinic conducted by Dr. N. Saravanabhava, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, supported by medical staff from the Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, and the Medical Officer of Health, Jaffna. This was followed by the distribution of nutrition and essential packs to pregnant mothers from underprivileged families. The event concluded with a Special lunch served to all beneficiaries at the clinic premises.

The purpose of this initiative was to uplift maternal health while ensuring that the next generation grows intellectually capable, kind-hearted, and physically resilient to face future challenges. Beyond this noble objective, the programme also served to strengthen Civil–Military Cooperation and foster peaceful coexistence, thereby laying a strong foundation for sustainable peace in Northern Sri Lanka.

This noble effort was generously sponsored by Ceylon Green Plantation (Pvt) Ltd. Its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. U.S. Kothalawala, along with members of his staff, also participated in the event.
