Spreading Smiles Through Education: 17 GW Uplifts Jaffna’s Junior Hearts and Minds

In a heartfelt effort to support and uplift the education of children in Jaffna, the 51 Infantry Division, under the strategic guidance and visionary leadership of Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 51 Infantry Division and continues to lead the way through a series of Civil-Military Cooperation activities with under command Brigades and Battalions. As part of this noble initiative, the 17 Gamunu Watch organized a school donation programme at Sanmugan Pre-School in Pumpugar, Ariyalai, Jaffna on 02 June 2025. The event was held under the guidance of Colonel LAR Gunarathne RSP USP IG, Commander 512 Infantry Brigade, and the close supervision of the Commanding Officer of 17 Gamunu Watch. During the programme, 23 school children received essential educational supplies, generously sponsored by Dr. Nadith Kaushalya and the “CHESENUT” Foundation, further strengthening the bonds between the military and the local community.

Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest was Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc, the General Officer Commanding of the 51 Infantry Division. His presence added special significance to the event, which saw the participation of senior officers and officers from the 51 Infantry Division and 512 Infantry Brigade, as well as teachers and parents. The initiative reflects the Sri Lanka Army’s commitment not only to national security but also to the development and welfare of future generations in the Northern Province, fostering goodwill of people at Jaffna peninsula.
