Annual Vesak festival for the Buddhist year 2569 commenced today 12 May 2025 under the patronage of the 51 Infantry Division with the guidance of Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) was held centralizing International Buddhist Centre Sri Naga Viharaya Temple on Vesak Poya day and it will be continued till 16 May 2025. The event was declared open by Hon. N. Vethanayagan, Governor Northern Province and the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc with the invitation of the General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division, Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc with the participation of Tamil and Sinhala community in Jaffna. Further, Mr. M Piratheepan - District Secretary, Jaffna, Ms. Ramya CS, Consul (Commerce) and Head of Chancery, Rear Admiral SJ Kumara RSP USP, Commander Northern Naval Area, Police senior officers and government officials were participated for the event.
Moreover, colourful Vesak lanterns and decoration exhibited by troops of 51 Infantry Division with under command Brigades and Battalions were added glamour and festive atmosphere around Ariyakulam Lake in front of the Sri Naga Vihara Temple. At the same time, the two days Rice Dansala organized by all under command troops of 51 Infantry Division offered delicious foods over 5000 participants in and around the area.
Further, “Vesak Bathi Gee” programme also conducted with the participation of Army and Tamil Bathi Gee teams symbolizing enlightenment of Gauthama Buddha on the Vesak day and following day at Sri Naga Viharaya Temple.
