52 Division Constructs and Hands Over New House to Needy Family in Kodikamam

Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to social welfare and reconciliation, the 52 Division of the Sri Lanka Army officially handed over a newly constructed house to a destitute family residing in the J/328 Divisional Secretariat Division, Kodikamam, on March 25, 2025.

The house was built by the troops of the 7th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) under the 523 Brigade, with financial assistance amounting to Rs. 2 million generously provided by the Australian charity organization, Imagine International Compassion PLT. Under the guidance of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna, the construction process was meticulously supervised by the General Officer Commanding 52 Division and the Brigade Commander 523 Brigade. The dedicated soldiers of the 7th VIR Battalion successfully completed the construction within a span of four months, commencing from October 10, 2024.

Previously, the beneficiary family, consisting of eight members, lived in a small and inadequate temporary hut. Recognizing their dire circumstances, the 52 Division took full responsibility for providing them with a safe and comfortable home, significantly improving their quality of life.

The official handing-over ceremony was graced by several distinguished attendees, including the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General BKGML Rodrigo; the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna, Major General YABM Yahanpath RWP RSP ndu psc; the General Officer Commanding 52 Infantry Division, Major General VDS Perera; the Brigade Commander 523 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier SMCAS Samarathunga RSP; the Commanding Officer of the 7th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment; along with senior military officers from Security Forces Headquarters (J) area, local residents, and family members of the beneficiaries.

This initiative underscores the Army’s ongoing efforts to foster unity and community support within the Jaffna Peninsula. By actively engaging in humanitarian projects, the 52 Division continues to reinforce the strong bond between the Army and the local communities, contributing to sustainable development and reconciliation in the region.
