The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Mr. Marc-André Franche, paid a courtesy visit to the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna on February 14, 2025. His visit underscored the continued collaboration between the United Nations and the Sri Lankan military in fostering community relations and ensuring regional stability.
Upon arrival, Mr. Franche and his delegation were warmly received by Major General YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna). During the meeting, Major General Yahampath provided an insightful briefing on the military’s involvement in community relations projects, security operations, and other key concerns impacting the region. The discussion emphasized the military's commitment to fostering peace and development in the Jaffna Peninsula.
Accompanying Mr. Franche were Patrick McCarthy, Peace & Development Advisor, Dr. Vagisha Gunasekara, Country Economist, and Ms. Kayathiri Kumaran, Field Coordination Officer for the North. Their presence further underscored the collaborative efforts between international organizations and local authorities in addressing socio-economic and security challenges in the region.
The visit concluded with the presentation of mementos to the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, symbolizing the significance of the occasion and the mutual commitment to cooperation. Mr. Franche also left a note of appreciation in the Visitors’ Book, marking the visit as a moment of continued diplomatic engagement. Brigadier MPKL Amarasinghe WWV RWP RSP, Brigadier General Staff, and Colonel UI Jayathilake, Chief Coordinator of Civil Affairs from the Security Forces Headquarters, were also in attendance during the discussions, reinforcing the importance of this high-level interaction.
