Security Forces (Jaffna) Hold ‘Katina’ Pinkama at Kankesanthurai Tissa Vihara

The traditional ‘Katina Pooja’ of the historical Tissa Raja Maha Vihara in Kankesanthurai (KKS) got underway on 18 & 19 October 2024 with a series of religious observances under the patronage of the Chief Incumbent of the Temple, Venerable Ginthota Nandarama Thero in the presence of a large gathering of devotees.

In a series of ‘Katina Pinkama’ in Jaffna, the first event was patronized by the troops of Security Forces (Jaffna) and the troops of Logistics Command, Security Forces (Jaffna) under the guidance of Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna). Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Police and the Special Task Force extended their untiring support to the success of the religious event.

On 18 October 2024, Pirith Chanting was conducted with the participation of a large number of devotees. The following morning, the Katina Cheevaraya was brought to Tissa Raja Maha Vihara from 5 SLASC in a procession at about 0430 hours and offered to Maha Sangha by the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) and Mr. Thilak Dhanapala, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Northern Province. The religious programme conducted offering of ‘Heel Daana’ and ‘Atapirikara’ to 30 Buddhist monks and Katinanisansa Sermon by the Anu Nayaka of Amarapura Kalyanawansha Chapter and the Chief Sangha Nayaka of Asia, Venerable Thapowanaya Meethabhana Nayaka Thero.

The total even was conducted under the supervision of Major General GLSW Liyanage USP psc, the Commander of Logistics Command, Security Forces (Jaffna) and. Brigadier Admin & Quartering, Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Colonel KMAWK Perera aato.

Rear Admiral AAAR Abeysinghe RSP USP ndc psc – Commander, Northern Naval Area, Dr. Morgan - Chairman of the Buddhist Association, Jaffna, Dr. Samitha Manawadu – Professor of University of the Moratuwa, along with tri services Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civilian devotees from various parts of the country were also present during this religious event.

The next ‘Katina Pinkama’ is planned to be held on 27 & 28 October 2024 at the Naga Vihara – Jaffna on Grand Scale with the participation of large number of gathering.
