On October 8, 2024, the 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment launched a comprehensive Dengue Control Programme aimed at eliminating dengue mosquito breeding sites. The operation took place along both sides of the A09 road, from Aiyakachchi Junction to Aiyakachchi Fuel Station, and from Aiyakachchi Junction to Pulleadi, within the KN/79 Gramasewa Division.
The programme saw the participation of approximately 50 civilians, who joined with the troops to clean and clear potential mosquito breeding grounds. The initiative was conducted under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment, with the guidance and assistance from the Commander of the 522 Infantry Brigade and the General Officer Commanding of the 52 Infantry Division.
This collaborative effort between military and community, aimed to mitigate the spread of dengue, a pressing health concern in the region, by targeting mosquito habitats and promoting community health and safety.
