Army Chief Inaugurates CIMIC Park in Kilinochchi to Support Educational Initiatives

The "CIMIC Park Kilinochchi," an initiative by the 55 Infantry Division, was officially inaugurated on 25 August 2024 by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army together with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit. This facility was established to address the educational needs of the Kilinochchi community, providing vital resources and support to local students and educational institutions.

The facility is equipped with features such as free Wi-Fi, study areas, washrooms, purified water, and a reliable power supply, all designed to enhance the learning environment for the community.

The Army Chief was warmly welcomed by Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B. Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), and Major General R.K.N.C. Jayawardene RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division.

Following the inauguration, the Army Chief, together with other distinguished invitees, toured the facility and engaged in friendly conversations with the children. During the visit, the Commander distributed gift packs to the students and later posed for a group photograph with the Senior Officers who participated in the event.

The CIMIC Park project was initially introduced by the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) and brought to completion under the guidance of General Officer Commanding- 55 Infantry Division and the supervision of Colonel D.K.C.L. Perera RWP USP psc, Commander of the 551 Infantry Brigade. The construction was made possible through the efforts and technical assistance of troops from the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 11 Engineer Services Regiment and 11 (V) Gajaba Regiment.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Major General P.G.P.S. Rathnayake RWP RSP ndc - Commander 1 Corps, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, teachers, students and local community members.
