Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, graced the second league of the Palmyra Club Challenge Trophy Cricket Encounter as the Chief Guest on 24 August 2024 at the Central College Ground in Jaffna. The event, coordinated by Security Forces (Jaffna) in collaboration with the District Secretaries of Jaffna and Kilinochchi, aimed to foster camaraderie in the community.
The Kilinochchi Geniuses team emerged victorious in the match and the Commander of the Army presented the prizes and the 'Palmyra Club Challenge Trophy' to the winning team. Vice Admiral Rohan Abeysinghe, Commander of the North Naval Command, Senior DIG of the North, and a large number of military and civilian community members witnessed the tournament. The event concluded with a lunch organised by the 51 Infantry Division.
Later in the day, the Army Commander, along with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), inaugurated the newly constructed Multi-Sport Court in Palaly by the Army troops, which includes facilities for netball, futsal and more. Afterward, the Army Chief conducted a visit on CIMIC park at the premises. The day concluded with the President ASVU distributing stationery packs to school children.
