The first leg of the Palmyra Challenge Trophy Cricket Encounter between Jaffna Geniuses Vs Kilinochchi Geniuses took place at the Central College Ground in Kilinochchi on 23 June 2024. This event was organized in order to mark the 28th Anniversary of Headquarters, Security Forces (Jaffna) with the involvement of the District Secretary of Jaffna and the District Secretary of Kilinochchi. The aim of the event was to promote a sense of comradeship within the community.
Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The match, held at the Central College Ground in Kilinochchi, was a testimony to the collaborative efforts of government agents and officials in fostering community spirit.
The cricket teams are composed of heads of government departments, Tri-Forces, Police, the Special Task Force and community leaders that aim to promote harmony between the government authorities, military and community in Jaffna and Kilinochchi. The Jaffna Geniuses team is led by Mr. M Piratheepan, the Acting District Secretary of Jaffna and Kilinochchi Geniuses team is led by Mr. S Muralitharan, the Acting District Secretary of Kilinochchi.
The Logistics Commander, (Jaffna), Principal of Hindu College, Jaffna, Director, Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, Assistant Director Physical Education, Jaffna, District Medical Officer, Kodikamam included for the Jaffna Geniuses team and Manager, Sri Lanka Telecommunication, Kilinochchi, Chief Engineer for Kilinochchi and Mulaithivu, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jaffna, District Forest Officer, Kilinochchi, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kilinochchi included for the Kilinochchi Geniuses Team.
The first encounter cricket match was won by the Kilinochchi Geniuses Team, and the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) and General Officer Commandings of 51 Infantry Division, 52 Infantry Division and 55 Infantry Division attended to award prizes and ‘Palmyra Club Challenge Trophy’ to the winners. The second leg of the cricket encounter will be anticipated to held at Jaffna in due cause.
A large number of military and civilian community participated in witnessing the match and at the end, all members participated in the buffet lunch organized by 55 Infantry Division at the Liberation Hub in Kilinochchi. Major General RKNC Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division and the Staff organized the event to the grand level.
