51 Infantry Division organized the Annual Vesak commemoration with the guidance of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna centralizing Sri Naga Viharaya Temple on Vesak Poya day 23rd May 2024.
The event was declared open by Hon minister Douglas Devananda, Mrs. P.S.M. Charles - Hon Governor Northen Province and the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc with the invitation of the commander 51 Infantry Division Major General WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP with the participation of Tamil and Sinhala community in Jaffna. Further, Mr. L. Ilaangovan, Chief Secretary - Northern Province, Mr. M Piratheepan - Acting District Secretary - Jaffna, Mr. Kalinga Jayasinghe - Deputy Inspector General - Jaffna, Tri Forces, Police senior officers and government officials were participated for the event.
To add glamour and festive atmosphere, troops of 51 Infantry Division with its under command Brigades and Battalions organized the decorated and colourful rotating Vesak lanterns around Ariyakulam lake in front of the Sri Naga Vihara Temple.
The Vesak Dansala organized by all under command troops of 51 Infantry Division offered delicious foods over 4000 devotees in and around the area. Meanwhile, 512 Infantry Brigade organized a Nescafe Vesak Dansala with the participation of 512 Infantry Brigade troops.
Vesak Bathi Gee programme also was conducted with the participation of Army, Navy, Air Force and Police Bakthi Gee teams symbolizing enlightenment of Gauthama Buddha.
