235 Acres Returned to Jaffna Farmers

Honourable President His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe visited Palaly and handed over official documents to 20 x beneficiaries and released 235 acres of land, which were previously held by the Security Forces (Jaffna) to farmers for cultivation purposes on 22 March 2024.

On arrival of the Honourable President, Honourable Governor of the Northern Province Mrs PSM Charles, Minister of Fisheries Honourable Dougles Devananda and Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc MA (IR) the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) lent a hearty welcome at the Palaly Air Port.

The day’s Chief Guest planted a banana sapling on the released land symbolising the commencement of the agricultural sector modernization project. He also planted another Tamarind sapling symbolising the visit to the Security Forces (Jaffna) area. Afterwards, His Excellent the President visited Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) and made complimentary notes in the Visitors’ Book and the Jaffna Commander awarded special memento as the token of appreciation.

Honourable Sagala Rathnayake, the Chief of Staff to the President and National Security Advisor, the Secretary of Defence, General Kamal Gunerathne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and Tri-Service Senior Officers and Government Officials were present during the occasion.
