55 Infantry Division Celebrated Independence Day in Kilinochchi

As a goodwill gesture and also to maintain strong bond with the community in Kilinochchi District, 55 Infantry Division conducted a cultural event and donation programme (school items) for 103 students on 04 February 2024 at "Nelum Piyasa" theater, Iranamaduin line with the 76th National Independence Day celebrations. The event was executed under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces -Jaffna, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc and supervised by the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division Major General RKNC Jayawardene RSP ndc.

Maintaining the ambiences of the Independence, cultural events were decorated in Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim symbolizing the theme 'Let's Build a New Country’. Various dancing performers, including Sarauanapoikai Dancing Academy Poonakary, Thiriwalluwa Tamil School, Sri Lanka Army dancing group and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment traditional dancing group added their performances to infuse this desirable occasion.

The District Secretary, Mrs R Ketheeswaran, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event saw the participation of clergies of Buddhist, Hindu, and Christian. And also higher ranking government officers such as Divisional Secretaries of Kandaveli, Karachchi, and Head of government authorities and the Police.

Further, Deputy General Officer Commanding, Brigadier RPARP Rajapaksa RSP, Brigadier General Staff 1 Corps Brigadier RP Munipura RWP RSP, Brigadier Admin and Quartering 1 Corps Colonel NWPSM Perera, Commander 552 Infantry Brigade Brigadier DSS Radalage RWP RSP, Commander 553 Infantry Brigade Colonel WAIS Mendis RSP USP, Senior Staff Officers, Commanding Officers, Commanding Officer 36 Regiment Wing, Sri Lanka Air Force - Iranamdu, Officers, Other Ranks, and civilian community were participated for the event.
