Major General MGWWWMCB Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, 31st Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna) took office on Wednesday (24) morning, amidst religious rites, rituals and formal military ceremonials.
The first segment of the ceremony begun at Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna premises with military honours presented by the troops of 1st Battalion the Mechanized Infantry Regiment. Later on, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, the newly appointed Commander reviewed the Guard of Honour, presented in his honour. Seconds after it, he was ushered to the saluting dais to receive the Guard of Honour, accorded by the troops of 1st Battalion the Mechanized Infantry Regiment.
A brief ceremony afterwards invoked blessings of the clergy on his new appointment where Pirith chanting got underway at the Commander’s office at the Headquarters. Religious dignitaries of Hindu, Catholic and Islam were also present during the taking over formalities and blessed him for his new appointment. Amidst chanting, the new Commander, placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office at the auspicious minute.
Later, the Commander posed for a group photograph. Giving a symbolic importance to the day, he was invited to plant a tree sapling in the complex. Later, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe attended the commemoration of fallen War Heroes of the Armed Forces, who served under Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna, and floral tribute was offered to those heroes at the Palaly War Heroes' Monument with the participation of Officers and Other Ranks. Further, an alms-giving was organized to invoke blessings at Commander’s Chalet.
Subsequently, Major General Chandana Wickramasingherose his feet to address the troops, who have been waiting in attention as the most significant item on the day’s agenda where he clearly unraveled how he plans to manage the Jaffna troops in the future. Afterwards he spelt out his vision for the command and outlined his goals, inspiring Officers to work towards common objectives during the Officers’ address. Towards the final leg of the itinerary, the new Commander shared a cup of tea with all ranks who were there to greet him.
