A community oriented project to provide fresh drinking water to students of St Fathima RCTM School in Uruthirapuram, Kilinochchi and residents around the area was launched on 10 November 2023 by the troops of 551 Infantry Brigade on a request made by the Principal of the school, under the supervision of General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Major General Nalin Jayawardena RSP ndc with the blessings of the Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General SRK Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc.
Troops of 11th Battalion Gajaba Regiment provides much-needed manpower and technical expertise for the construction that will benefit 376 students, 26 teaching staff and 112 families of the area. The project is coordinated by Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Retired) through Vanni Aids Canada foundation with the financial contribution of Mr and Mrs Thevishka and Varhini Kanishkan residing in Canada donated in memory of their Grandparents.
Major General RKNC Jayawardena RSP ndc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Rev Priests, Deputy Zonal Director Education Planning T Paranidaran, Additional General Manager of National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Northern Province Engineer Jegatheeswaran, Commander 551 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officers of 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 11th Battalion Gajaba Regiment, Principal, teachers, students and the parents attended the inauguration ceremony. The students and the villages were treated with snacks by the troops.
