In a momentous display of collective commitment to bolster the security of the Kilinochchi District, top level Army, Police, STF, SIS and other government officials congregated at Headquarters - 55 Infantry Division on 09 November 2023.
The unprecedented assembly was initiated by the Commander 553 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Saman Perera RSP under the guidance of General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division, Major General Nalin Jayawardena RSP ndc. The intention was to address the surge of illegal activities in the area, including illegal sand mining and the distribution of illicit liquor, which pose a threat to community welfare.
The General Officer Commanding highlighted the significance of 55 Infantry Division's redeployment to the Kilinochchi District on 21 July 2023, emphasizing the division's new found responsibility for operational and administrative matters. He stressed the imperative need for an integrated mechanism of all government agencies to effectively curb these illegal practices.
This historic conference marks the first of its kind, aiming to coordinate efforts among security agencies following the 55 Infantry Division's assumption of authority in the region that aims to deter illegal activities and ensure a prosperous, secure future for the Kilinochchi District and its residents.
