552 Infantry Brigade Launch a Book Donation Programme and Ice Cream Dansala

On the 5th of May, 2023, the 552 Infantry Brigade organized a book donation program at Iyyakachchi GTM School, followed by an ice cream dansal for the students. The event was graced by the Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, the General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division with the presence of Brigadier Saman Perera, the Commander of 553 Infantry Brigade, Senior Superintendent of Police Kilinochchi Mr. MKRA Gunaratne, OIC Pallai Police Station Chief Inspector GCSK Kularathne, Mr. AP Mathan the Chairman Tamil Hindu Union Pallai, Mr M Kajendran the Principal of Iyyakachchi GTM School, and a large gathering of parents.

The event aimed to promote education and inspire the students by providing them with books and educational resources. The generous contribution of “Athahitha Foundation” led by Mr. Prasad Lokubalasooriya together with Mrs Samanthi Wijewardane and Mr Saman Gunaratne made this event possible. The students were overjoyed to receive the books and enjoyed the ice cream treat that followed.

The book donation programme was a great success and received much appreciation from the attendees. It helped to improve the educational opportunities of the students and supported their future success. The event also highlighted the commitment of the Sri Lankan Army and the community to promote education and the welfare of the youth in the area.

Overall, the book donation programme and ice cream treat were a great initiative by the General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne. The entire event was set in motion by the Overlooking Commander 552 Infantry Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Jagath Dembatagahawaththa along with the Civil Affairs Officer of 552 Infantry Brigade Lieutenant Colonel RRS Dehigala and the troops of 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment and 23 Battalion the Gemunu Watch.
