As per the guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, with a view to uplifting the education facilities of underprivileged students in the Maruthankerni area, troops of the 10 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment launched a school accessories donation programme for children on 27th March 2023 at the Cultural Centre of the Maruthankerni Divisional Secretariat.
There were 38 packs of necessary school accessories worth Rs. 9000.00 each. The “Help and Helper Foundation”, Sri Lankan community residing in Australia at present, funds this donation programme. The event was coordinated by the Commanding Officer 10 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major KHC Samanpriya with the supervision of Colonel Janak Prematilake, Commander 553 Infantry Brigade, who had graced this occasion as the Chief Guest.
Divisional Secretary of Vadamarachchi (East) Mr. Kumarasami Pirabhakaramurthy, Zonal Educational Director Maruthankerny, OIC of Maruthankerni Police, Grama Niladari of respective areas, Principal of Maruthankerni College and a large number of villagers with their children took part in the occasion.
