In consistent with the government policy of releasing northern lands, hitherto used by the Security Forces to their original owners, the Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), in coinciding with the 75th Independence Day, on the instructions of Honourable President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and with the guidance of the Defence Secretary and the Commander of the Army, released 80 acres of land in Kankasanthurai, Mailaddy and Anthanipuram areas under Thelippalai Divisional Secretariat to their original owners on 03rd February 2023 during a special ceremony.
The formal ceremony for release of land to the owners took place at Anthanipuram, headed by Major General Swarna Bothota, Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) as the Chief Guest and Honurable Douglas Devananda (MP), Minister of Fisheries as the Guest of Honour.
Afterwards, symbolic exchange of deeds and documents related to 80 acres of land took place with a representative group of owners. During the ceremony coconut saplings were distributed among families following an initiative, taken by the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Swarna Bothota.
Members of Parliament, Chief Secretary - Northern Province, Chairman - Northern Provincial Council, District Secretary - Jaffna, Additional Secretary to the President, Divisional Secretary - Thelippalai, General Officers Commanding of 51, 52 and 55 Infantry Divisions, Commander 515 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer Air Force Station - Palaly, Senior Officers/Officers and troops of Security Forces (Jaffna), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) - Jaffna, Grama Niladari of Palaly North, Thenmylai, Kankasanthurai Central and Mailaddy North and a large gathering attended the occasion.
