Manpower and technical expertise of the Army and the patronage of a philanthropical donor enabled the 551 Infantry Brigade troops to build a new house for a well-deserved family in the area of Thunnalai (S), Karaveddy and vested it with the beneficiaries in the presence of Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding - 55 Infantry Division on 16 December 2022.
Mrs Selvartnam Jeyappirata, who had been living in extremely difficult conditions, owned a new house built by the Army. Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Retired) coordinated the funds allocated to the Army by the Tamil Church of Living Savior (Canada).
Troops of the 16th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry provided much-needed manpower and technical expertise for the construction work under the supervision of the Brigadier Chinthaka Wickramasinghe with the guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne.
The day's brief ceremony symbolically handing over the keys and concluded with a distribution of dry ration packets to the beneficiaries by the Chief Guest.
Commanders of 551,552 and 553 Infantry Brigades, Senior Officers, Mr N Jeganathan, Hon Kandeer Ponnayya– Vice Chairman Karaveddy Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr E Thyaruban – Divisional Secretary Karaveddy with Government officials, other Invitees and civilians also participated during the inaugural ceremony.
