The 55 Infantry Division's 26thAnniversary commemoration has already started with a blood donation programme by the division's troops. This noble occasion was organized under the guidance of General Officer Commanding Major General Prasanna Gunaratne re-assuring the highest number of blood donors from the troops to the blood bank, Teaching Hospital Jaffna. Moreover, this is an effort to invoke blessings for the men under his command and for those who gave their lives over the division's 26-years history.
The Officers and Other Ranks of Division Headquarters, 551, 552, 553 Infantry Brigades, along with under command Battalions donated blood.
The division's Medical Officer had coordinated with Jaffna Teaching Hospital to set up the event. The initiative successfully engaged two Medical Officers of the blood bank, five nurses, one public health inspector, one public health field officer, and eight nursing assistants.
The programme was successfully completed by collecting blood from 200 donors, which desperately required and could assist the Teaching Hospital in meeting the need for general blood transfusions for about a week.
