Pirith Chanting Train Arrives to Jaffna

The Kavudumunna Raja Maha Viharaya, Dambadeniya along with Bosath Foundation of Bujjomuwa Railway Station organized a Pirith Chanting Train Journey ‘New Year of Prosperity’ from Beliatta to Kankesanthurai on 11 and 12 December 2022 in order to promote peace and reconciliation among communities. The train with Pirth Chanting accompanied 17 Buddhist dignitaries led by Ven. Ginnaliye Ayupala Thero and 400 devotees from all parts of the Island, and they were received by the Troops of Security Forces (Jaffna) at the Kankesanthurai Railway Station at 09.00 pm on 11 December 2022.

The Buddhist delegation on their arrival visited to Thissa Viharaya – Kankesanthurai where troops of Security Forces Headquarters had arranged to offer morning and afternoon alms for them.

Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) organized a programme to distribute donations brought by the devotees who came by train on 12 December 2022 at the Thissa Viharaya – Kankesanthurai. Accordingly, Major General Sanjeewa Fernando the General Officer Commanding of 52 Infantry Division took part in the programme to distribute 250 ration packs for underprivileged people, 150 gift packs to pregnant mothers and 250 stationery sets for deserving students.

The programme was conducted with the attendance of the Hon. Governor Northern Province Mr. Jeevan Thiagarajah, Brigadier Clifford Zoysa the Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North). Brigadier Dammika Karunapala, Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Anura Bandara, Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Officers representing Army, Police Officers, Religions Dignitaries, Troops and residents in Kankesanthurai.
